Painting Your Trim Dark

Most of the time we see clients choose to go with a light color like white or off white for the trim in their room.  Davis Paint Company has worked with several interior designers who have recommended to their clients’ that they paint the trim dark. An interior designer on one of our interior painting projects requested that we paint it that way. She said that it was a great way to have a more “designer feel” in your room than if you go with the standard white or off white trim. According to the interior designer, it is a dramatic painted with trim darker than wall

For traditional homes you will most likely stick to painting the trim light and a shade that is somewhat darker on the walls. If you are looking for a more contemporary, or transitional look in your home you might want to consider painting the trim dark and the walls lighter.  A great combination from Sherwin-Williams for this look is SW 6212 Quietude for the wall and SW 7645 Thunder Gray as the trim color. If you are concerned about how this might look, you can always test it out with the tools like the color visualizer on the Sherwin-Williams website. This tool makes it easy to drop colors into the room of your choice so you can visualize what they will look like before you actually begin the paint project.
