How To Prep Before You Paint A Room

Have you ever thought about the best way to prepare for painting a room? If you prep carefully you can have a re-painted room that looks like a professional house painter did the job.  In this new post the team at Davis Paint Company in Woodstock, GA shares:

How To Prep A Room Before You Paint:

DPC paint preparation

  • Remove all the furniture you can move easily and take down anything hanging on the wall. Move any furniture to the center of the room that is too heavy to haul all the way out of the room.
  • Cover any remaining furniture in the room to prevent getting any paint splatters on it. Use plastic to cover it with instead of old sheets or fabric. Paint can seep through the fabric.
  • Clean the room and wipe down the walls.
  • Use a drop cloth to cover the floor and prevent spills or splatters on your hardwood or carpets.
  • Use good painters tape for the trim. Make sure to get the blue kind that can be found at most home improvement stores. Most professional painters will tell you that taping properly can save you a lot of time and money if you are not a pro with the paint brush.
  • Tape all the doors and cover the handles and knobs with a  plastic bag.
  • Tape the trim and light fixtures. Use plastic bags to cover the globes around any light fixtures if you can’t remove them all together.
  • Remove the switch plate covers, vent covers, and outlet covers.
  • Next get your favorite tools out and ready. If the brushes you own are old and covered with dried paint, go buy new ones! Be sure you have a new roller to use as well.
  • Choosing the right paint for the job is also key in preparing to paint.

Remember good preparation before you begin your painting project will save you both time and money in the long run. It is the most important step in the entire project. If you don’t have time to paint your own room or want to go through all of this prep work to get started consider hiring a professional house painter to get the project completed.
