  1. Remove: Take all the doors, and drawers out of the cabinets. Remove all the hardware from the doors and drawers. Be sure to tape the walls around the walls that touch the base of the cabinet to save on having to go back and repaint the walls.
  2. Sanding: Sand the base cabinet, drawers, and doors, and any other surface including inside the cabinet if you intend to paint it, espeically if your cabinets had stain or another type of finish other than paint.
  3. Prime: Find the right kind of prime paint for wood cabinets. Paint at least one coat of primer on the base cabinet, drawers and doors.
  4. Paint: You can use a paint brush for this step or if you have a sprayer you can use that.  Make sure you use enough paint. Most often people make the mistake of not using enough paint when they take on a home project. If you don’t use enough paint the finish will look spotty and uneven.
  5. Add New Hardware: Or if you like your old hardware re attach it to the drawers and doors. Make sure if you are purchasing new hardware that it will fit in the pre-drilled holes or else you will have another step in your DIY project.
