Basics of Adding a Stenciled Pattern to Your Walls

The team at Davis Paint Company in Woostock, GA  has been hearing a lot about texture this year from our interior design friends. One easy way to add texture and do it yourself is to use a stencil to create a pattern on your wall. You can easily buy a stencil pattern and start from there but in this post our team will tell you how you can create a great textured look by making a stencil with poster board.

How To Create A Stencil Pattern on Your Wall:

Stencil Wall Pattern

  1. You will need poster board, pencil, tape, ruler, scissors or box cutter, paint, and rollers. Take the poster board and draw out a design for the stencil. You can use a ruler to help draw straight lines and also to measure how big you want the design to be.
  2. Once you like what you have drawn out with your  pencil as a design, get the scissors or box cutter and cut out the pattern. Be careful to follow the pattern and it should come out the way you hope.
  3. Chose a base coat for underneath the pattern for an accentuated look.
  4. Tape the cut out poster board pattern to the wall where you want to paint the stencil. Use a roller brush to apply to paint over the stencil.
  5. Wait until the paint has dried before you remove the poster board from the wall. If you find that errors were made because of the roller brush, you can always use an artists brush to touch up places in the pattern.

This DIY project is easy enough for most people to handle. With the cost of some paint and some time you will have a great new accented look in the room you decide to add the new stencil pattern to. If you don’t have the time to do this kind of project yourself and want a professional paint job you can contact Davis Paint Company for a free estimate or if you have any questions about our interior and exterior painting services.
